Heart of the Design
We were divided into groups of five and had to select a festival and a brand for which we had to do packaging. To add on, we had to do a series, not just one packaging along with an element of surprise. In my group we divided our roles. While all of us brainstormed and worked on the concept and execution style, I along with another member worked on the visual style.
All of us have grown up watching Walt Disney movies. That was our inspiration for our ‘Festival Packaging’ series. We decided to select Halloween as the festival and wanted to design it for children between the age group of 6 to 10. Our element of surprise was a storyboard related to the character and flavour. Most children simply love Oreo biscuits. So we went down memory lane and decided to promote the movie series Hotel Transylvania through Oreo packaging. We associated the various flavours through the various characters.
Dennis

Meet Dennis
Dennis is the adorable baby dracula from the movie, famous for his orange hair. It is because of that colour that we decided to associate the orange flavour package with him. Every package has a size and a number of biscuits. Since this is our youngest character, it will have only 6 Oreo biscuits and the price is ₹15.
Element of Surprise
For our element of surprise, every character has a visual board inside, which they can see when they open it up. The reason the plate is at the very bottom is because the box will open like a matchbox. So, on opening the box, it will look as if the biscuits are piled up on a plate.

Why Perforation
We realised that children just love Oreo and cannot wait to tear open the packet to eat the biscuit, which is why we decided to play with the psychology of tearing open a packet of Oreo. Moreover, once we open an Oreo packet, it gets soggy due to air. So we had secondary packaging too, where every two biscuits were packed into pattern sheets. To make it more interesting, we have two options of patterns too.

Mavis

Meet Mavis
Mavis is Dennis's mother who is a bat and Vampire. It is because of her vibe and the flavours used in the movie which is why we associated the red velvet colour with her. Every package has a size and a number of biscuits. Mavis has 16 biscuits and the price is ₹45.

Element of Surprise
The movie started with the idea that a vampire cannot marry a human, but Mavis falls in love with a human and marries him. Therefore, that is the vibe we worked on- Mavis's wedding day. For the perforation concept, we decided to make the box open like bat wings, after tearing open a small slit.

Drac

Meet Drac
Drac is Dennis's grandfather. He is mostly seen in a black cloak and his vibe in the movies made us associate him with the chocolate flavour. His packet holds 32 biscuits and costs ₹35.

Element of Surprise
Drac was always against humans, even after his daughter Mavis was married to one. So for him we took a darker approach with him and his relation to Oreo biscuits too by using visuals and terms like R.I.P hunger. Moreover the opening is unique. The perforation is done in a way that it looks like you have to open up a coffin to eat the biscuits.

These were our older mockups, but this is how we intend to open the box.
Murray

Meet Murray
Murray is a mummy. His white bandages made us associate the original vanilla flavoured Oreo biscuits with him. The Vanilla flavour is our largest family pack which can hold upto 60 biscuits and ₹50.

Element of Surprise
Murray is a fun loving mummy. His white bandages made us choose the vanilla flavour for him The perforation is done in a way that it looks like you have to open up the bandages to eat the biscuits inside.
